157 2021 Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos Brazilian Vehicle Rental Sector Yearbook Leasing and rental companies in sustainable cities H ow much of a priority is urban mobility for a sustainable city? Diego Conti, a lecturer at PUC- Campinas and executive director of Integra Consultoria, is adamant on the fate of cities. “Mobility will be part of everyone’s life, whether now or in the future, and this includes car leasing and rental companies.” It is essential that public officials, the market and society collaboratively discuss the best alternatives and solutions. The expert says there are places around the world that have advanced in sustainable mobility, prioritizing the use of alternative and collective transport, improving sidewalks, using leasing and rental systems, sharing electric vehicles and using apps. Author of the book, “The Future of Cities,” written with Vinnicius Lopes Ramos Vieira, Conti says it is based on three points of discussion: sustainability, smart cities, and viability models, preaching the importance of Public Private Partnerships and Concessions. In his view, it is possible to align this movement with innovation and technology, to produce more sustainablemobility systems. The role of the automobile in this new scenario is viewed with pragmatism by the consultant. “We are in the midst of a paradigm shift,” he says, adding that cars are gradually becoming shared objects. “Families start to use a single vehicle and companies that need cars to distribute services and products are going for leasing or outsourcing.” More ambitious discussion - Diego Conti argues that the debate on mobility in cities should be more ambitious and creative, in the search for intelligent systems – essentially with the use of data and new technologies – and compatible with environmental issues, being clean and more inclusive. The expert recommends participatory and collaborative governance, allowing the construction of a collective and long-term vision. International references, such as any country or city in Scandinavia, are very different from most of the world in terms of quality of life and urban ecology. On the other hand, cities in China, crushed by disordereddevelopment, have found a path to sustainable development. “They are an example of an urban solution with a more careful look at electric vehicles, the use of intelligent systems, big data, clean energy generation and bold investments in infrastructure,” he says. A well-known concept, Human, Intelligent, Creative and Sustainable Cities should be guided by systemic projects, says Conti. Transport must follow a mobility plan that is effective, safe, inclusive and ecological. And that is where partnerships with private initiative can help cities make projects viable. da maior parte do mundo, no que se refere à qua- lidade de vida e ecologia urbana. Diego Conti professor da PUC-Campinas | lecturer at PUC-Campinas © Divulgação
