Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos | 2020
131 2020 Anuário Brasileiro do Setor de Locação de Veículos Brazilian Vehicle Rental Sector Yearbook M onitoring in the legislature the developments in tax reform, which will also have consequences for the vehicle rental sector, is part of the mission that the National Transportation Confederation (CNT) in 2020. Optimistic about Brazil’s economic growth, with GDP exceeding 2% by the end of this year, the President of the CNT, Vander Francisco Costa, believes concession contracts for roads, ports, railways, oil exploration and infrastructure will increase throughout the country. “This is another boost to vehicle rental companies because of the need for more vehicles on construction sites,” says Costa. While he acknowledges the time until public contracts are firmed up is unknown, Costa says, “Outsourcing in the transport sector is cyclical, but as the pace of economic growth becomes constant, the results are noticeable.” Costa says the natural consequence is that skilled labor will be needed, generating fewer accidents and more savings. On the interpretation of the extinction of radars on federal highways and reduction in the cost of DPVAT, although he recognizes the possible cost reduction for the private sector, Vander Costa avoids controversy. He says transport businesses already track truck fleets 24 hours a day, including speed control and have insurance for third parties, which distances it from the debate on the latest decisions by the government. Costa also notes that this is a good time for vehicle rentals and the synergy between the CNT and the segment, linked by passenger and cargo transport. “Most vehicles sold today are for lease. The transformation came two years ago, with leases accounting for a larger number of cars used by apps and for buses and trucks. But the drone era is a while off,” he says.
