and encourage safe behavior in traffic, one million breathalyzers have been distributed for DETRAN educational drives. Another DENATRAN project was the driving simulator. One of the great advantages of using driving simulators is they allow exposure to a range of situations found in the real world at reduced costs, while being safe for the driver and instructor. The purpose of the simulators is training in a virtual context for use in real environments. The project in partnership with the University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), studying and developing two-wheeled simulators for use by Training Centers in Brazil, is underway. The project’s goal is to study of the use of simulation and virtual reality technologies to improve training for motorcycle riders. It also aims to assess the full range of products available nationally and internationally. DENATRAN’s Training Project trained 28,838 professionals from the National Traffic System from 2000 to 2011. DENATRAN is alert to the entire driver-training system. At the moment, one major concern of the federal government is public health spending in traffic accidents. One of the outstanding projects in Education for Citizenship in Transit is the DENATRAN Award, which in 13 editions has received 300,000 applications. Addressing future efforts, DENATRAN is in talks to run the BrazilEngland Workshop, to present best practices for traffic safety and education. This is evidence of the important work done by DENATRAN on traffic education. The many efforts and educational projects developed are essential to achieving safer traffic and greater citizenship in Brazil.
