Anuario ABLA - 2013

ANFAVEA 39 Anuário Yearbook ABLA 2013 The Challenge of Mobility Cledorvino Belini | President of Anfavea Urban mobility has become a constant and growing issue in the lives of citizens, governments and businesses, because of its effects on quality of life, on the environment, and even on the competitiveness of metropolitan economies. The question should not be viewed from one aspect or another in isolation, such as the number of vehicles on the roads, which are just the most visible part of the problem. Urban mobility should be seen from a number of standpoints: the volume of vehicles, individual transport, efficient public transport, residential and population density, highway infrastructure, traffic engineering, urban planning, and the sensible use of cars, besides consumer education. The future requires structural solutions, with permanent national public policies for metropolises, integrated with local and state policies involving the public and private sectors. The role the automotive industry plays in this context is relevant. It is responsible for technological development and vehicle production which translate into greater mobility and sustainability for cities. There is a real technological revolution happening world vehicle development centers, increasingly prioritizing the concepts of security, environmental quality and urban mobility in the DNA of cars of the future. The projects focus on compact cars, more efficient and economical engines, and alternative fuels. Electronics and computers are a growing presence in vehicles, starting them and running them, defining and directing greater drive-ability for drivers, saving time and putting resources into safety and environmental standards. Newmaterials and nanotechnology are making vehicles lighter and more recyclable at the end of their lifetimes. Highway infrastructure and engineering will ensure fluidity. And traffic safety will require supervision and, increasingly bold preventive action, starting with stricter driver training. Safety items are being demanded and are priorities in vehicles. Vehicle emissions are falling and in some cases will be eliminated, at least at the final source, which is the vehicle. Biofuels and hybrid vehicles are already a fact and gaining market share. Other vehicle energy, such as hydrogen fuel cells and other alternatives will be tested in new ways to drive vehicles in the future. Vehicles of the future will be much more advanced. From the design, through performance, drivability, connectivity and functionality, energy efficiency, with low or zero emissions, safety, accessibility, maintenance, and ample facilities for recycling at the end of the line. The automobile-environment-urban mobility equation will be constructed with the right products and move forward by the industry, with legislation, urban planning and public policy by the State, and discipline and respect for the law by consumers. veiculares, como célula de hidrogênio e demais alternativas serão testadas em novas formas de mover o veículo futuramente.
